The Spotify IoT demo showcases a connected multimedia application that bridges music streaming and cloud-based telemetry. Built with MicroEJ’s software container on the NXP i.MX RT1170 platform, this demo highlights how IoT devices can deliver interactive, data-driven experiences while maintaining low power consumption and high performance.
The application retrieves playback data from the Spotify Web API via HTTPS and enables users to control music directly from the device interface. Simultaneously, it sends real-time telemetry — such as current track information, artist, album details, and device performance metrics — to the ThingsBoard IoT Cloud Platform through an integrated MQTT connection.
This two-way interaction demonstrates how MicroEJ technology simplifies the development of connected devices that merge multimedia capabilities with IoT cloud connectivity. Developers can seamlessly visualize telemetry and playback activity on a ThingsBoard dashboard, enabling deeper insight into device usage and performance.
By combining MicroEJ’s lightweight virtualization layer with NXP’s high-performance i.MX RT1170 microcontroller, the Spotify IoT demo illustrates how to design next-generation smart devices capable of both rich user experiences and advanced cloud integration — all while optimizing development efficiency and scalability.
