A Dual-OS Architecture for Wearables

This demo showcases a smartwatch architecture powered by two complementary processors:

  • NXP i.MX 8M Mini (MPU) running Android for rich and interactive experiences
  • NXP i.MX RT595 (MCU) running MicroEJ VEE Wear as an ultra-efficient ambient mode

With MicroEJ’s offloading framework, the system automatically switches to the MCU when the user is idle or only requires low-power animations.

This approach significantly reduces energy consumption and, based on our estimations, can extend battery life up to 3× compared to running Android alone.
